Are shutters more expensive than blinds?

While shutters are more costly than most blinds, they are a far more durable option, and one that with the right care will last you a lot longer than blinds. Our top selling shutter range is made from HSPVC, which carries a 10 year warranty for white & cream shades. Plantation shutters are more of an investment cost such as carpets or internal doors.

Do you lose a lot of light with plantation shutters?

Compared with no blinds, you will notice quite a big difference in the amount of light that comes in. However, compared with standard blinds such as wooden venetian or vertical, there will only be a small difference. Due to their frame and solid material, shutters by nature block more light. They are not a 100% blackout option alone, but paired with a blackout pleated blind behind it, this will provide total darkness.

Something else to bear in mind is the size of louvre you choose. A bigger louvre will let more light in when tilted open, than a smaller louvre. Always remember, you can open the doors up fully if you prefer more light. Also, our Nevada PVC range has a slightly chunkier frame than our Madison hardwood range.

Are shutters warmer than curtains?

Shutters and curtains are two of the best insulators for keeping your home warmer. Both do a similar job of trapping the heat, retaining up to 64% of the heat in your home. The main difference being that you will only feel the benefit of curtains when they are fully closed (usually at night). Shutters will provide some level of insulation throughout the day as your shutters remain in place with the louvres tilted.

Kitchen Shutters add value to your home

Do shutters add value to your home?

Shutters are absolutely fantastic at adding kerb appeal, and therefore value, to your home. They look stunning from the inside & out, and are a great investment into your home. Installing made to measure shutters can really upgrade the look of your property to any future potential buyers.

What are the pro’s and con’s of shutters?

Pro’s of shutters – As well as retaining the heat by up to 64%, shutters add kerb appeal and value to your home. They’ll give you privacy and light control, as well as looking absolutely fantastic. Our PVC range boasts a 10 year warranty on whites & creams, meaning they are built to last.

Con’s of shutters – Sometimes shutters aren’t the best option for your window style or the ways in which you intend you use them. They are an investment, so it’s best to figure out what suits you best before taking the leap. It can also be a slight issue if you wish to place furniture right in front of the window, as the shutter doors open out.
