As beautiful as bay windows are, they can sometimes be a little tricky to dress. We’ve put together our top tips on how to dress bay window blinds to get the most out of such a stunning feature.
1. Get some advice.
Ask one of our reps which blinds are most suited to your bay. All bay windows are slightly different when it comes to fitting, so our helpful reps will be able to advise you on which blinds your bay window would benefit from most. If you’re not sure about something or have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask our surveyors to explain it for you. A custom made headrail for vertical blinds may be the best solution for a bow window, whereas straight rails would work just fine for a square bay.
2. Choose wooden blinds or shutters for a modern look.
Shutters look stunning on a bay window, from the inside & outside. With a huge range of styles available, and the freedom to choose how many doors you want & which way they fold back, plantation shutters in a bay window are a very popular choice. For a slightly cheaper option, wooden venetian blinds are also a great option, especially the narrower slat widths 25mm & 35mm.
3. Layer blinds & curtains to create a textured feel.
Using both window blinds and curtains to dress your bay window can create a lovely texture within your room. Choose a heavier curtain fabric paired with a lighter blind to even out the window dressing. For a high-luxury feel, opt for roman blinds with a contrasting curtain to dress the outside. Choosing blackout lining will also increase the amount of heat that you retain in your rooms.
4. Embrace the light
Using sheer fabrics will bring a lot more natural light into your room and make it appear larger than it actually is. A sheer roller blind in a neutral colour will give you a little privacy but still allow you to see the outside world and bring light into the room. Voiles are also another great choice to dress your bay if you’d like even more of the window to show through.
